Implementation Cafe
2025 has been a BIG year
The Cafe team have been busy in 2025, a few highlights shared below:
We have partnered with the Western Australian Health Translation Network (WAHTN) to explore effective ways to bring new science into clinical practice. Read more at the link: https://www.ecu.edu.au/newsroom/articles/news/ecu-joins-forces-with-wahtn-to-translate-research-into-action Our team will be connecting with WAHTN partners across the State to understand what works and where our gaps and opportunities are, to ensure health research continues to thrive in Western Australia.
Prof Sara Bayes and Dr Lauren Fortington took part in the Child Health Research Symposium, guiding new implementation science enthusiasts through the foundational principles in the HOW TO of getting evidence into practice.
The Café proudly featured at the Evidence and Implementation Summit 2025, where Lauren Fortington shared our story, from humble beginnings to a thriving community, highlighting how collaboration and curiosity have fueled our growth – and that is all thanks to our regulars!
Seven presenters shared personal insights from applying implementation science in practice. The sessions spanned the full spectrum, from effectiveness and hybrid trials to scaling strategies and district-level evaluations. We learned how to use CFIR for qualitative analysis, implementation mapping for tobacco cessation, and practical designs like pre-post studies to drive real-world change. Thank you to each and every presenter over the last three years for your willingness to share – we learn so much from each other!

What is the Implementation Café?
The Implementation Café is a resource hub designed to support health researchers, practitioners, and related professionals to understand and apply implementation science approaches in their research planning. By providing tools, knowledge, and a supportive community, the Café aims to enhance the impact of health interventions and contribute to better health outcomes for the community. Our aims are:
- Build capacity: Increase knowledge and confidence in implementation science among health and research professionals in Western Australia (WA).
- Share implementation knowledge: Facilitate the exchange of experiences, challenges, and solutions related to implementation science.
- Enhance network opportunities: Foster a community of practice where researchers and practitioners can collaborate and support each other.
Journal club presentations
Journal club presentations are designed to upskill researchers and practitioners with key literature and concepts from implementation science. Upcoming presentations for 2025, and archived sessions from 2023 & 2024 are available here.
Masterclass
Are you looking for support to developing your implementation research idea into something more?
We are developing a short course masterclass for health researchers, academics, HDR students and practitioners who understand implementation science principles and are ready to design an implementation study. During the masterclass, participants will be supported to select the relevant research methodology and framework/s for their project; design and conduct real-world context (‘readiness’) analyses; and work with consumer, community and industry through all phases of the project.
Register your interest by emailing our team.
Workshops
Our team is available to provide interactive workshops designed in collaboration with your organisation to introduce implementation science and discuss the how to plan for successful implementation. If you’re interested in learning more, reach out to our team.
