Summary:

The Food Outlet Dietary Risk assessment tool (FODR) provides an objective rating of the potential harmful public health nutrition impact of individual food outlets in communities by identifying and characterising the associated risks. The FODR is supplemented by the Menu Assessment Scoring Tool (MAST) which is used to score the nutritional quality of food service menus. Design of the tools is complete. Application of the tools in currently underway.

Anticipated research impact of FODR Projects:

The research findings and classification tools developed are being integrated into the WA Food Atlas and National Food Atlas Projects. The geospatially mapped FODR scores will inform local government planning and policymaking to support healthy community food environments. Findings will be used by our research partners to develop town planning guidance on fast food outlets and public health planning, assisting local governments to deliver effective and positive food environment changes.
