Professor Lewis is a Professor of Cardiometabolic Health in ECU’s Nutrition & Health Innovation Research Institute. He leads the disorders of mineralisation research group within the School of Medical and Health Sciences. His innovative research program aims to develop better ways to identify and prevent disorders of mineralisation (bones and blood vessels) before the onset of clinical symptoms such as heart attacks, strokes or fractures. Josh supervises postgraduate students in a range of research areas including developing tests for chronic diseases, clinical nutrition and lifestyle research as well as developing better evidence to improve healthy ageing.

Professor Daniel Galvão is Director of the Exercise Medicine Research Institute at Edith Cowan University, Australia, and Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and Exercise and Sports Science Australia. Galvão’s research program developed and tested targeted exercise interventions to reverse treatment-related toxicities and improve patient outcomes that have changed the clinical management of cancer patients worldwide. His research support includes >$25 million in continuing external funding over the past 15 years from the NHMRC, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, Cancer Australia, Cancer Council Western Australia, and Movember Foundation.

Professor Robert Newton is Professor of Exercise Medicine and Deputy Director of ECU’s Exercise Medicine Research Institute that he established in 2004.

In 2020, he was appointed as a Vice-Chancellor Professorial Research Fellow in the Exercise Medicine Research Institute. In 2018, Professor Newton received the career achievement award from the Cancer Council WA and in 2019, was named the Western Australia Premier’s Scientist of the Year. In 2021, The University of Queensland awarded him a Higher Doctorate (DSc) for his research into exercise oncology. The title of his thesis is “Exercise medicine as neoadjuvant, adjuvant and rehabilitative therapy for cancer”.
