Edith Cowan University’s (ECU) School of Medical and Health Sciences was honoured to host Professor Sharath Sriram, the newly appointed Chief Scientist of Western Australia, for an insightful visit showcasing ECU’s cutting-edge health research and innovation.
Led by Executive Dean Professor Moira Sim, the visit provided a unique opportunity to highlight the transformative work being carried out across ECU’s flagship health science institutes and centres. Professor Sriram met with leading researchers and toured three of ECU’s premier research hubs, including the Nutrition and Health Innovation Research Institute (NHIRI).
Professor Sim described the visit as a valuable moment to demonstrate ECU’s multidisciplinary approach to tackling some of Western Australia’s most pressing health challenges.
“This visit was a fantastic opportunity to present our innovative research and also demonstrate how our teams are translating scientific evidence into real-world impact across public health, clinical practice, and chronic disease prevention,” said Professor Sim.
During the visit, NHIRI researcher Dr Liezhou Zhong and his team showcased their pioneering work in dietary interventions, food policy, and the prevention of non-communicable diseases. The team shared insights into innovative trials that blend nutritional science with community outreach and public health strategy, reinforcing NHIRI’s commitment to improving health outcomes through evidence-based research.
