Summary:
Food retail and food service outlets present in community food environments can be part of a chain or independently operated. Chain food outlets are managed from a central location or under a franchise agreement. Chain food outlets are likely to have the most influence over community food environments due to contributing a higher proportion of food sales. This research examined the presence of chain food retail and food service outlets to support evidence-based policies to improve population diets.
