This exploratory study evaluated the appeal, usability, and effectiveness of a midwifery-specific implementation toolkit designed to support Australian midwives in adopting evidence-based practices (EBP). The toolkit, co-designed with midwifery leaders and practitioners, provides structured guidance on planning, implementing, sustaining, and evaluating practice changes.
- Participants: 24 midwives from across Australia; 14 completed the evaluation.
- Toolkit Usefulness: Most users found the toolkit practical, easy to navigate, and helpful in boosting confidence to lead change.
- Barriers Identified: Time constraints, staff resistance, lack of support, and workplace culture were common challenges to implementing EBP.
- Toolkit Impact: Participants reported improved understanding of implementation science and increased confidence in leading change initiatives.
- Recommendations: Participants suggested adding videos, real-life case studies, and clearer guidance on stakeholder engagement and project scoping.
The toolkit was found to be a valuable, discipline-specific resource that supports midwives in implementing EBP. Tailored, accessible tools like this are essential for bridging the gap between research and practice in maternity care. Further research is needed to assess its long-term impact and adaptability across other healthcare settings.
