Bridging the gap: Standardising Care for Exercise and Nutrition in Cancer

Project Overview

Evidence shows that exercise and nutrition play a vital role in improving outcomes for people undergoing cancer treatment. However, in regional Western Australia (WA)—referrals to these essential services are not routinely provided. This results in a significant “know-do” gap between best practice recommendations and real-world implementation.

Our three-year project aims to close this gap by developing and implementing an exercise and nutrition referral pathway into health services in South West WA. Through collaboration with local community partners, we are creating a system that is both practical for clinicians and accessible for patients. By successfully integrating this pathway into standard cancer care, we aim to enhance survivorship and improve health outcomes for people across the region.
